ISA-UK Member Sygnet Group, win 3 awards in 2019

ISA-UK member, Sygnet Group recently scooped another two big industry awards in a week!

Back in April, Sygnet’s managing director, Gary Iley, took the title of Entrepreneur of the Year at the Leicester Mercury Business Awards.

Then, in September, the firm managed to earn two more accolades in the shape of an East Midlands Chamber Business Award and a LeicestershireLive Women in Business Award.

Competition was fierce at the East Midlands Chamber Awards on the 20th of September, as Sygnet Group triumphed over huge multinational companies with headquarters in New York and Rio, to win the coveted Manufacturer of the Year trophy.

The gala ceremony, held at the Athena in Leicester, was attended by the MD, together with Tom Cantle, the company’s sales manager and Mark Atkinson, the man in charge of its social media and marketing. Cantle was called upon to collect the award and delivered an acceptance speech that would’ve made the likes of Halle Berry green with envy!

Iley commented on the win: “The company is going from strength to strength at the moment and winning an award like Manufacturer of the Year will help us reach even more customers.”

Then, a mere six days later, Sygnet’s Finance Director Wendy Savill attended the LeicestershireLive Women in Business Awards at the King Power Stadium, home of Leicester City Football Club.

One of three finalists in the Inspirational Woman of the Year category, Wendy won the award based on her work in the field of mental health awareness, and due to the fact that she has been instrumental in the transformation of Sygnet’s fortunes in her seven years at the company.

Modest, even in victory, Wendy commented: “I have to be honest, I was amazed at becoming a finalist never mind winning the award, especially when I saw the two wonderfully deserving ladies I was up against.  However, it was an absolute pleasure to receive and I am extremely honoured.

While Sygnet Group has historically specialised in the production of built-up letters, flat-cut letters, illuminated signage, totems and monoliths and sign trays, the company’s recent rebrand has enabled it to create bespoke products aimed at the domestic market, too.

Of the rebrand, Iley remarked: “We’ve long had the expertise and machinery to make a wide selection of products other than signage, and now thanks to our name change, we can do just that.”

Indeed, the 45 year veteran of the trade signage industry now manufactures stainless steel and glass cantilevered staircases and balustrades, illuminated feature walls and pedestrian security gates to name but a portion of its burgeoning repertoire.

Employing around 45 staff from its site in Leicester, Sygnet Group now turns over £3m to £3.5m a year, but estimates that this will rise to well over £5m in the near future.
