Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

Raising Awareness of the Level Three Technical Apprenticeship in Sign Making

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we celebrate the growth and development of apprenticeships, particularly the Level Three Apprenticeship in Sign Making, which has become a key qualification for individuals entering the signage industry in the United Kingdom.

The British Sign & Graphics Association (BSGA) is championing this essential qualification, which provides apprentices with the skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to succeed in our creative and technical sector.

The Trailblazing Group for the Level Three Technical Apprenticeship in Sign Making plays a crucial role in creating, developing, shaping, and reviewing the apprenticeship standards. Jeff Bufton, Chair of the Education and Training Committee, leads the group, receiving proactive support from Linda Edwards (BSGA Managing Director), Craig Brown (BSGA Chairman), David Derbyshire (Technical Committee Chair), David Allen (BSGA President), and numerous other champions from the industry.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education recognises this group’s significant contribution and acknowledges them as influential industry leaders. Through their collective efforts, the Trailblazing Group ensures the apprenticeship remains credible, fit for purpose, and responsive to the needs of all industry stakeholders. Their collaboration provides a solid foundation for the future of the sign industry, fostering a well-trained and skilled workforce.

In addition, Linda Edwards and David Derbyshire serve as Independent End-Point Assessors for this certification. They ensure that apprentices across the United Kingdom meet the industry’s exacting standards under the guidelines set by SIAS.

The BSGA plays a crucial role in supporting apprentices and employers by ensuring the apprenticeship is relevant, credible, and aligned with industry practices and standards. With the involvement of key industry experts, BSGA offers apprentices access to a network of professionals, ongoing mentorship, and a clear pathway to achievement within the signage industry. By championing the apprenticeship, the BSGA ensures that both apprentices and employers are equipped with the tools and support needed to thrive.

If you are an aspiring sign maker or an employer looking to develop your team, now is the perfect time to register. Contact the BSGA today to learn more about the apprenticeship programme and how it can benefit you or your organisation.

Together, we can champion our industry and strengthen the voice of our signage community!
