By Norman Mayhew, Managing Director, The Sussex Sign Company

Tell us about your business. What do you do, who do you work with, and what makes your company unique?
The Sussex Sign Company was established in 1995, and we’ve spent over 30 years helping businesses get noticed through well-designed, professionally produced signage.
Based in Portslade, Brighton & Hove, with a dedicated Vehicle Wrapping Centre in Burgess Hill, we provide everything from shopfront and illuminated signs to vehicle wraps, wall graphics and wayfinding. Our customers range from independent local businesses to schools, universities, public-sector organisations and national companies, including many of Brighton and Hove most iconic signage projects.
What makes us stand out is our people and the relationships we build. We take time to understand what each customer needs, offer honest advice and look after the process from design through to manufacture and installation. We want customers to feel comfortable asking questions and confident that we’ll deliver.
Why did you become a BSGA member, and what has membership meant to your business?
We became members because we believe in supporting the industry we’re part of and encouraging high standards across the signage sector.
Signmaking brings together creativity, craftsmanship and technical knowledge, and we feel that deserves recognition. Being part of the BSGA connects us with a wider community of businesses that understand both the rewards and the challenges of our trade.
For us, membership is about professionalism, sharing knowledge and supporting a collective voice for the industry. It also helps demonstrate to customers that we take our responsibilities and standards seriously.
Which project, achievement or milestone are you most proud of, and why does it stand out?
Winning Best Large Roll-Out at the 2024 UK Graphic Awards for our work with Paxton Access was a particularly proud moment.

Delivering consistent signage across multiple sites takes careful planning, attention to detail and teamwork. The award recognised the contribution of everyone involved, from the initial customer conversations and design through to production and installation.
As Managing Director, seeing the team receive that recognition meant a great deal to me. You see their effort every day, so having it recognised by the wider industry was very special.
Alongside that, building a business that has served customers for over 30 years, while continuing to develop our team and invest in the future, is something I’m immensely proud of.
