“The registration, which was completed in February, gives us real teeth in being able to stop companies that are not members from passing themselves off as members,” said BSGA director David Catanach. “Use of the badge without approval is now actionable and we have every intention of enforcing the rules and seeking legal redress and costs for any misuse.
“We are working hard to build the badge to be the symbol of a quality sign business. All members are vetted, have signed up to our Code of Practice and Obligations of Membership and are subject to our Dispute Resolution services.
“Use of the badge adds credibility to a sign business and it is, therefore, essential that we protect it from dishonest use. The trademark registration is a major step in enabling us to do this.”
