Sign Surgery: KOPA System and Industry Insights

The latest BSGA Sign Surgery included an engaging session on the KOPA system, led by Matthew Anderson and Conan Worsley from Sign Trade Supplies. The session not only showcased the benefits of Sign Trade Supplies’ KOPA system but also tackled key industry concerns, including regulations, warranties, and safety procedures.

Matt kicked things off by explaining how the KOPA system was developed with direct input from customers: “Like many of our systems, the KOPA system was born out of customer feedback. We’re not looking to reinvent the wheel—we focus on providing solutions to real problems.” That problem-solving approach was a common theme throughout the presentation as the system’s practical advantages were demonstrated.

A standout feature is the efficiency of the TradePlus portal, which offers instant quoting. “We all know that the quicker you get back to a customer, the more likely you are to secure the job. That’s why we built instant quoting into the TradePlus system,” Matt explained. The system’s use of ACM panels and a kit-based design also means faster turnaround times and less risk of damage during transport. “By sending it out in the same format as our poles, channels, and components, we reduce the likelihood of damage in transit,” he added.

A live demonstration by Conan reinforced how easy the system is to install. “It’s a straightforward process—we even tested it with people in the office who had never touched it before, and they got the hang of it straight away,” Conan said.

Beyond product features, the discussion shifted to industry-wide challenges. Craig Brown raised concerns about highway regulations: “If highways say no, the right to appeal is limited, and it can drag on. They can even override councils.” This sparked a conversation about the difficulties of navigating red tape and the importance of due diligence.

Warranties were another hot topic, with Craig observing that signs or way-finding systems mounted near roads and intersections may fall under the Highways Agency governance. This led to a wider discussion on warranty expectations, with some installers noting that customers rarely ask about them, while others highlighted the need for warranties to align with industry standards.

The session also touched on safety, with a reminder about the importance of utility scans and risk assessments before installation. “It’s about common sense and having the right safety procedures in place when digging holes,” one participant noted.

Overall, this Sign Surgery was a valuable opportunity for BSGA members to explore the KOPA system and discuss pressing industry concerns. The next session will feature Innova Solutions, who will be discussing tapes and adhesives—don’t miss it!
