I began my journey in the signage industry as a 20 year-old trainee estimator at a renowned signage company in Cardiff. This was a significant shift from my previous experience in the automotive finance industry, and it was a thrilling new venture for me.

My entrepreneurial spirit was ignited, leading me to purchase an Encad NovaJet printer, which I used to create and sell canvases at a market stall on weekends. As time passed, I expanded my business by attending car shows with an SLR camera and an Epson Stylus Pro 7600 printer in the back of my van. At these shows, I would capture photographs of people’s cars and print and stretch them on-site.

Equipped with just a 610mm plotter and my reliable Epson printer, I set up Print Sauce at my kitchen table. Since then, I haven’t looked back. My business has steadily grown, and I love it.

I joined the BSGA because I believe it is important to help look after the health of our industry and to have a way to share, learn and develop through association with peers. I have always been keen to get involved and recently became chair or the Marketing Committee.

The BSGA Marketing Committee

As you can see with this newsletter, we are embarking on an exciting plan to strengthen BSGA’s role as a leading voice in the signage and graphics industry. We are launching some key initiatives, including a monthly newsletter, regular online Sign Surgery clinics, and increased member engagement through monthly press releases, video interviews, and thought leadership content.

A primary objective is to enhance BSGA’s position as the industry’s voice, advocating for members and promoting “The 5 C’s”—Community, Communicate, Collaboration, Cooperation, and Champion. By continuously engaging with government agencies, local councils, and planners, we ensure that our members’ collective views are represented in the policymaking process.

Expanding Member Benefits
To provide consistent value for members, the committee will focus on sharing information, knowledge, and resources in a more structured way. For example, the monthly newsletter will highlight industry trends, member news and achievements, and updates on education and technical areas while keeping you informed on upcoming events, open days, and awards.

Our regular press releases will announce key advocacy efforts, association news, and partnerships to the wider sign industry. In addition, our video interviews will feature expert insights, technical leadership, and member case studies. This content will educate the community and enhance the BSGA’s role as a hub for industry knowledge.

Call to Action
Members are encouraged to send questions in advance for upcoming Sign Surgery sessions and send their news, achievements and events to the BSGA Marketing Committee:  Jack Gocher at jg@uksigns.org. The goal is to foster a more engaged, educated, and connected signage community.

As the BSGA continues to grow its initiatives, it remains committed to being a powerful advocate for its members, helping them navigate industry challenges and thrive in a competitive market.
