The British Sign and Graphics Association (BSGA) has received the welcome news that after much lobbying regarding the threat that all funding would be withdrawn in Scotland, the United Kingdom Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) will fund the following reviews affecting Scottish sign businesses:
- SVQ Level 2 and 3 in Signmaking
- MA level 3 in Signmaking
- MA level 2 in Signmaking
The fight to retain funding doesn’t stop there!
Cogent, who are the Sector Skills Council for the Modern Apprenticeship in signmaking are conducting a complete review of the SVQ Levels 2 & 3 and the Apprenticeship framework itself. This is vital work towards the continuance of the programme but Cogent need the help and support of the Scottish Signmaking Community to complete this work. This is also your opportunity to have a say in whether the current qualifications are ‘fit for purpose’, need updating or amending or don’t cover areas of signmaking that your business is presently involved in.
With this in mind, on behalf of Cogent, the BSGA invites you to attend a briefing/consultation session at their centre in East Kilbride to enable Cogent to conduct this review thoroughly and with the support of the Scottish Signmaking Community.
The event details are as follows;
Venue; EKGTA
Location: 3 Law Place, East Kilbride, G74 4PP
Date: Thursday 27th March 2014
Time: 10am to 2pm (Buffet lunch provided)
The BSGA urges those businesses in Scotland that are interested or will be affected by this, to attend if at all possible as one of the deciding factors in all this is the response shown by signmakers in Scotland being enough to warrant the continuance of funding for these qualifications.
If you are planning to attend, please email your intentions to our colleagues at Cogent (to allow them time to consider the facilities at EKGTA). The email address is ian.lockhart@cogent-ssc.com
If you require any more information, please do not hesitate to contact Ian at the email address above.
