Electrician joins Applelec and completes NVQ Level 3

Gareth fills a much needed new post and joins the technical team responsible for a variety of electrical work undertaken by Applelec in the creation of illuminated signage and systems which employ LED Light Sheet. Gareth has responsibility for programming colour shows and sequences for LED illuminated signage and LED Light Sheet units created with RGB (colour changing) LEDs. In addition to this, Gareth will be liaising with clients to understand the effects and sequences they require before delivering tailored programming prior to systems leaving Applelec’s factories or onsite following installation.

Ian Drinkwater, Applelec managing director, comments: ‘We have seen a steadily increasing demand for signage and LED Light Sheet panels featuring colour changing sequences with Gareth joining the in-house programming team. For large and complex projects we are able to send Gareth to site, in plain clothes, to work on behalf of our clients and provide a service which has been frequently requested. I am delighted to employ a young man who is passionate about electronics and lighting and predict great things for Gareth.’

Since joining Applelec, Gareth has completed his NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services which covers installation and maintenance and ensures Gareth is qualified to work onsite to provide electrical services following health and safety regulations. Prior to his appointment at Applelec, Gareth worked for a domestic electrical installer, Paul Philips Electrical, for a little over three years.

Gareth is responsible for solving electrical issues as diverse as planning wiring systems, building power supply enclosures, researching new electrical components and advising the sales team on their integration within illuminated signage. Already with a number of high profile projects under his belt for Applelec, Gareth has programmed a dramatic rainbow colour changing scheme for an office entrance tunnel created with 40 individually controlled units of RGB LED Light Sheet. Gareth is currently researching and adapting new technologies to devise touch and sense activated on/off control of LED Light Sheet.

Applelec’s recent three storey building extension has created space at the Bradford head office factory for an improved development and testing facility where Gareth is located when not onsite. Applelec is currently recruiting a number of letter making apprentices in a commitment to invest in the future of the sign industry.
