Clearer names, the same trusted films – VION simplifies its range to make signmakers’ lives easier.
For more than a decade, VION films developed by William Smith have been a trusted part of the sign and graphics trade. From bold vehicle wraps to high-impact signage, installers and designers have relied on VION for affordable performance, consistent quality, and results they can trust.
Now, the range is evolving with a fresh look and a new naming system designed to make life easier for signmakers.
Film codes made simple
One of the most common requests from customers has been to simplify VION’s long film codes. William Smith has listened. The company has replaced the old numeric system with a new, smarter format designed to make ordering easier, faster, and clearer.
The new system is built for the way signmakers work, showing key information at a glance. The format follows a simple, logical structure:
VP (VION Print) + Years of durability + Face finish + Adhesive type
For example:
- VP3G-C = 3-year gloss print film with a clear adhesive (formerly VP3000-01)
- VP3G-G = 3-year gloss print film with a grey adhesive (formerly VP3000-02)
- VP3G-G VF = 3-year gloss print film with grey V-Flow adhesive (formerly VP3000-02VF)
- VP3M-G HT = 3-year matt print film with grey high-tack adhesive (formerly VP3900-12)
Each part of the code provides practical details about the film’s performance:
- VP = VION Print
- VL = VION Laminate
- Number = Years of durability (3, 5, or 7)
- Finish = G for Gloss, M for Matte
- Adhesive = G for Grey, C for Clear, R for Removable, VF for V-Flow, HT for High Tack
The result is a cleaner, more intuitive system that helps customers find the right film quickly without referring back to product tables or guides.
Craig Brown, Chairman of the BSGA and long-time advocate of making sign industry products more user-friendly, praised the move: “It’s the small changes that make a big difference on the job. When you can pick up a roll and know instantly what it’s for, you save time, avoid mistakes, and work more confidently. This is a great example of listening to what signmakers really need.”
Built for experts, backed by experience
The VION brand has always been about more than just film; it’s about supporting the people who use it. William Smith understands the pressures of tight deadlines, the need for cost-effective options, and the importance of reliable quality.
Lindsay Hutchinson, Head of Marketing at William Smith Group 1832, said: “We know our customers want films that are straightforward to use and deliver every time. The new VION codes take away the guesswork. It’s all about helping installers work faster and smarter, without compromising on quality.”
The new naming system is now live, with updated codes appearing across product guides and ordering systems. The rollout will continue over the coming months as more products transition to the new format.
William Smith is committed to making this process as smooth as possible for customers. If you have questions or need guidance, your account manager is available to help.
